Food Trucks

As I travel the country and explore the small businesses, towns, and Main Streets of America, there is one thing that I can never pass up… the colorful, beautiful, unique bundle of merchandising called a food truck! In fact, I seek them out! Finding a food truck is like finding an Easter egg on Easter Sunday, and no two are ever the same. Now, I’d be lying if I said that it’s not the food that lures me. The unique food offered by some food trucks is amazing, but it’s not the number one reason I love them. It is the pure heart, spirit, and soul of entrepreneurship that shines through in food trucks that endears me. So, I decided to start featuring some of these gems through a Food Truck Friday feature. Let’s start with what I happened upon just last week.

Welcome to Cambridge and the Harvard Science Center Plaza! Imagine my delight when my walk through the Harvard yard opened up to these three beauties! Located at the major campus crossroad between Harvard Yard and the Science Center, the Plaza is home to a myriad of University activities including the Arts First Festival, Farmers’ Market, weekly lunchtime concerts, and more, including great food options from locally-based food trucks. To see what food trucks will be there each week, visit the Food Truck Schedule for the Plaza. Seriously, who can resist a food truck? From the nostalgic appeal to the gourmet menus, I am just drawn right in!

This first Food Truck Friday post features three food trucks: Bon Me, The Cod Squad, and Tenoch Mexican.

Bon Me Foods serves Asian inspired cuisine from their food truck since 2010, when its Boston-bred founders decided to enter the City of Boston’s Food Truck Contest on a whim! Guess what? They won! Their first official Bon Me truck hit the streets in 2011, and today there are 11 colorful food trucks that cater to the Boston area. They offer up chef-crafted dishes like the K-Town Throw Down (the food truck favorite!), and a build-your-own-bowl with a fun variety of proteins and sauces. To learn more about them, visit their awesome website!

The Cod Squad took to the streets in 2012 and is a spin-off of Captain Marden’s Seafoods in Wellesley, MA. “Always fresh, always tasty seafood” is their motto and you can find them on the streets of Boston during the week, and at festivals and private events on weekend. Their menu consists of seafood chowders, sandwiches, salads, and whole plates, with goodies like lobster roll and fried calamari! Learn more about The Cod Squad by clicking this link.

The third truck sitting in the Harvard Science Center Plaza last Thursday was the Tenoch Mexican food truck. They have three restaurant locations in the Boston area, with a 4th coming soon to Cambridge. They own three food trucks that specialize in tortillas, hefty sandwiches made with meat, Oaxaca, cheese, and veggies, all stuffed inside soft telera bread. Their menu also includes tacos, enchiladas, and burritos. Keep watching their website as they open their 4th location and to keep tabs on their food truck locations.

So if you’re heading to the Cambridge area and the Harvard campus, make sure to swing by the Harvard Science Center Plaza for some good eats! Do you have a favorite food truck or festival? Please let me know in the comments and I will hunt them down!
